Over the last month or so I’ve been working on new t-shirt designs for my friends band o’death. We ended up going with 3 different designs. 2 were printed on a round of 100 t-shirts each and then a 3rd design was printed on a limited amount of gray sweatshirts.
I’ve been designing and printing t-shirts for a few years now but have never really taken on larger jobs since the way I print is a very diy way, by simple putting a t-shirt down on my printing table, holding the screen down and printing with a small hand squeegie. This way works great is you are only doing a few t-shirts at a time and don’t mind if they all look slightly different, I actually prefer to print my designs this way. But over the last year I’ve been asked to make more and more band shirts and I prefer not to send off my designs to get printing by anyone else, mostly because Portland does not really have a good t-shirt printer on hand. So I decided to take the money from these last few jobs and buy myself a 4 color t-shirt press! I used it for the first time on these shirts and couldn’t be happier! This this is super sturdy and is very easy to use.
I’m hoping this will allow me to feel more confident with my printing skills and open my self up to taking on more jobs and providing something in the community that doesn’t really exist. I can also charge a bit less if I’m doing both the designing and printing.
Below you will find a few shots from the last few days of printing. o’death will be taking these shirts on tour with them on their opening slot for the great band Murder By Death. I will be heading down to the Boston date if you want to come hang out!

I recently had the pleasure of doing an illustration for longtime friend Bryan Bruchman’s new band Mount Sharp. They have a new ep coming out/out right now called Weird Fears. The ep is pressed on 12in vinyl with one side being the music and the other side having an etching of the illustration I made for them. I’ve yet to see this in person but the pic below looks pretty sweet! I’m excited to see what it looks like when spinning. Pick these up directly from the band on the internets or at their live shows.

Posters are all done for the Screaming Females at SPACE Gallery show. These are a collaboration with Marissa Paternoster of the Screaming Females. Posters are a 4 color screen print with pink and blue editions. These were so much fun to design and print!
Pink edition is a large 106. Blue is 19. Poster measures 18in.-24in. printed on 100lb. Madero Beach Speckletone Paper but The French Paper Company. Also the first 30 posters in the pink edition have the show information for the Space Gallery show while the rest only have Screaming Females text. A limited number of these will be for sale with the Screaming Females on tour after the Space show in Portland and available on my ETSY Store here.
Below is a little process of the printing of these posters done in Pickwick Independent Press in Portland, ME.
The two top pictures are taken by David Zwickerhill. If your looking for a photographer in the Portland area, look up this guy!
Transparencies for burning screens.
First layer of lighter green.
baking racks make for good drying racks! I think I need to buy 1 more.
I had a lot of fun with the pink layer on this poster. Some I printed blue instead of pink while some pink posters have split fountain with some lighter pink/gray.
More process after the jump!

This poster was super fun to make! I started out just drawing cassette tapes in my notebook while at the same time was thinking of ideas for upcoming shows at SPACE, and it just clicked together, Ted Leo=Fun good times! so I chose to make a grid formation of old tapes, which are all based off of real tapes I found in a box at my work. I eventually changes some of the information on the tapes to fit the show, Ted Leo & Screamales references, and maybe one local indie band one in there as well. You’ll have to see these in person to know what I’m talking about!
First few drawings of tapes which eventually led me to hand drawing all of the band text. This is harder than it looks, mostly just trying to pick the one that works best.
After the poster was all layed out in Photoshop I printed out each color layer on to paper and oiled them up for the burning process. This poster is a 3 color screen print, printed on 4 different colors of paper. Ink colors are Black, Light blueish white and Orange/red
The photo below is the blue layer transparency.
Way more photos after the jump!

So this band almost played in Portland last night, but Geno’s cancelled the show for lack of promotion. Wonder who’s fault that was???
Anyways, this band rules!!!
