A shot from my clean studio last night in preparation for a college class visit that happened today.

Plants plants plants!

Kris Johnsen blog 2014
Helloo, over the past two years or so my girlfriend Jess and I have started to grow more and more plants at home. Some to eat, some to look at and some for our cat Harry to munch on. We have also started to sell little air plants at Pinecone+Chickadee in Portland. Jess was in charge of making the display for them all on a table in the store. All plants are $8 and $10 depending on their size. We also got two really large ones that are a bit more. These are some fun little plants and am psyched to have them in the store! Come say hi!

We ordered these plants from a green house so they came in this box above which was interesting to see. You can grown plats from the plants you receive so we will probably try to do that a little bit and see what happens!

Photo things are happening!

Today I spent the day photographing new and semi-new prints and Tshirts in Studio E which is Erin Flett’s beautiful and bright studio space. As I’ve mentioned before I’m over hauling my Etsy, website and currently working on a NEW web store that will be for more current projects and available products for wholesale. It’s going to take more some time to photograph, edit and update everything but please keep checking back to my Etsy Store for new product shots and expect a new website as soon as I can get it done!

Also, you should really listen to this album. It’s amazing! Mutoid Man – Helium Head. Put out by Magic Bullet Records.

Here are a few pictures from the last few days. Recently myself and my friend Ryan LaMunyon have been hanging out and just drawing or painting. We did this a little more often a few months ago when we were working on our group art show at Pinecone+Chickadee. We each painted on some panels last night getting ready for the 2nd Eat More Art show at P+C in Portland which I’ll be throwing very soon. It’s where I pass out lots of 8in.-8in. wood panels to friends and artists and have them do whatever they want on them and hang them for a First Friday Art show. More info on this soon!

I recently picked up a new Nikon D3300 camera. I’ve been meaning to buy a nice camera like this for years! Literally since graduating from art school. Well I finally decided to put down the money for one and I’ll be taking lots more pictures and documenting my work so much better. I’m currently working on overhauling my website as well as making a new store to buy my prints and other things. This store will not be on Etsy and I will treat it more of a wholesale store. A place where people can pick up a print if they want but it will also be a place where I only put things that I have a lot of. I will treat my Etsy store more for 1 off and rare things to keep each seperate.

Above is a panel I worked on at drawing night. The size is 12in.-16in. painted with acrylic paint. Contact me if interested.

A new start!

Home office

Hello all! If you have been one of the people that has kept checking in on my blog thanks you and I’m sorry that it’s been very very slow the past year. Things in my life and art career have really taken off and have started to take up a lot of my free time that I used to spend uploading tons of process pictures here. I still do a little of that on my Instagram but I still don’t feel like its the same. I miss keeping a blog and almost treating it like a journal of my art life with little bits of my private like intertwined.

My late new years resolution is to use the thing Facebook a lot less and always go to this first for keeping people up to date. Yes, it’s not as instant as people might need these days but really is Facebook instant gratification anymore? I feel like I miss half of the things that get posted on there anyways and almost feel more confused. I do enjoy the Instagram though!

So some new things about me…

  • I’ve been collecting records a lot more frequently and have been posting about them a little bit and will probably do so on this blog. Expect lots of emo and post rock records. Though I do need to work on my hip hop collection which is pretty sad.
  • I still work, help out at and sell art and vintage wares at my favorite shop Pinecone+Chickadee in Portland, ME.
  • In the past year I’ve started to work part time in Westbrook, ME at the Dana Warp Mill for my good friend Erin Flett who runs her own line of designer pillows, fabrics, tea towels, wall art and much much more! I do a ton of screen printing along with her husband Maslen.
  • My girlfriend Jess and I have also started to beautify our apartment. We’ve been collecting and treasure hunting and I’m finally at a point in my life where I’ve been buying stuff for myself. I went through a long period where if it wasn’t an art supply I wasn’t buying anything really. I moved apartments a lot and was in school so I didn’t feel the need to have many things until now. Money was also an issue while being in school of course.
  • I also still have my studio located in downtown Portland and have lots of projects in my head and notebook that I’m going to start very soon! It’s been a longgg winter and I’m ready for spring and new things sprouting up!
