This o’death and Death Vessel print is now up for sale in my Etsy Shop. I have about 10 of these left and 100% of sales after shipping and Etsy processing charges is still going towards o’death to help them with their recent robbery that happened while on tour. These were for sale at their show at SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME the other night with all money going towards the band as well, I think we sold a good amount of posters, the leftovers were given to the band. So this is the only place to get them before they are gone forever!

Arms and Sleepers/LYMBYC SYSTYM poster for SPACE Gallery

Wow. it’s been awhile since I posted anything on here! Sorry about that. I’m going to try and update this blog a bit more with current projects. If you do come to this blog every once and awhile please don’t think I’ve totally stopped updating and taking pictures of my process. To tell you the truth I’ve been using Instagram a lot more then any other social media platform. You can follow me at (krisgjohnsen). Please do! There is lots more drawing and process shots on there that I used to post on this blog, you’ll also see things first before I post them other places.

This is a new poster that I just designed for one of my favorite bands Arms And Sleepers. It’s at Space Gallery in Portland, ME. They have not played here in a few years and haven’t really been playing out in about a year since I saw them in Cambridge last December in 2012 so this show is really not to be missed, they are joined by Lymbyc Systym who I’ve never seen and Portland local An Anderson.
I’m debating making a small run of screen printed versions of this poster. If so it will change a little and the colors may be slightly different but the same basic design will be there, I will try and stay updated with process pictures if I go forward with this.

Open Studio!

On October 11th my studio The Artist Studio Building in Portland, ME is having an open studio that is open to the public. The building is located at 536 Congress St. in Portland right above SPACE Gallery. Stop by if your around the area, I’ll have lots of new and old work on display and its always a pleasure to look at all of the other studios in the building, there is about 30 other studios in the building.

What Cheer? Brigade and Math The Band poster printing

Here’s a new poster myself and Kimberly Convery designed for the What Cheer? Brigade/Math The Band and The Outfits show at SPACE Gallery on May 25th. We had a ton of fun drawing and printing this poster. Basically we just hung out for a few hours and drew up a design for it, not much thinking ahead or planning out, we figured whatever happens, happens. We did the same while printing it, The digital version above has very specific colors for the text while we left the image area plain, but while printing we played around with different color gradients and changing up the colors a lot so each print is a bit different color wise while the black print is always the same. We finished these last night and couldn’t be happier. They will be for sale the night of the show for $5 or something cheap like that so please pick one up from us! I’ll those the leftovers online afterwords or email me at Krisgjohnsen@gmail.com if you are interested. There is an edition of 100 and they are printed on 70lb kraft paper.

Draw Your Face Off event at SPACE Gallery

Last Friday I took part in an event called Draw Your Face Off, at SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME. Every First Friday most galleries in Portland are free, stay open a bit later and usually have openings or larger events happening. On Friday Space asked myself, along with 20 or so artists to do live drawing. We brought our own paper and supplies and just drew while people came into the gallery and watched us do what we do. All the pieces made from the show were for sale for $30 no matter what it was. It was a really fun event and my first time taking part in it. It was a bit nerve racking since I am not used to drawing around other people, it’s a very private thing for me but it was great to do something out of my comfort zone even if I did draw things I was a little more comfortable drawing.  Below are some photos myself and Nat May from SPACE took from the event.

48 Hour Music Festival Printing

Printing process for the 48 Hour Music Festival 5 poster I designed and printed this past week. Will be for sale the night of the event for the first time and possibly online after the event. I also made a small art print edition with no text that I’m working on releasing.

Here’s my new poster design for the 48 Hour Music Festival in Portland, ME at my favorite venue SPACE Gallery. this will be screen printed this week, will be a 4 color print and available for the first time the night of the event. Left over’s will be put on my Etsy Site afterwords.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Poster and Process

I’ve had the pleasure of designing this poster for Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra when they play at SPACE Gallery on August 2nd in Portland, ME. which is also the exact date of SPACE Gallery’s 10 year anniversary. The poster is a 2 color screen print. Edition of 100. Half of the edition is printed on thin chipboard and half on brown kraft paper.

This poster will first be for sale the night of the show, view all show info here. Then a day or two later I will throw up the remaining copies online.

Below you can find a few pictures of the drawing process, the printing process as well as some detail shots.

This poster is basically one whole drawing that was created from a collage and drawing I made and then re-drawn to make one piece. That drawing was then scanned in to make the black layer of the poster.

For the white layer I layed down some drafting vellum over the black layer and drew in some highlighted white areas.
