Arms and Sleepers/LYMBYC SYSTYM poster for SPACE Gallery

Wow. it’s been awhile since I posted anything on here! Sorry about that. I’m going to try and update this blog a bit more with current projects. If you do come to this blog every once and awhile please don’t think I’ve totally stopped updating and taking pictures of my process. To tell you the truth I’ve been using Instagram a lot more then any other social media platform. You can follow me at (krisgjohnsen). Please do! There is lots more drawing and process shots on there that I used to post on this blog, you’ll also see things first before I post them other places.

This is a new poster that I just designed for one of my favorite bands Arms And Sleepers. It’s at Space Gallery in Portland, ME. They have not played here in a few years and haven’t really been playing out in about a year since I saw them in Cambridge last December in 2012 so this show is really not to be missed, they are joined by Lymbyc Systym who I’ve never seen and Portland local An Anderson.
I’m debating making a small run of screen printed versions of this poster. If so it will change a little and the colors may be slightly different but the same basic design will be there, I will try and stay updated with process pictures if I go forward with this.

New Screaming Females Video!

The Screaming Females just put out a new video for the song “It All Means Nothing” from their new album Ugly. If you look closely a few times in the video you can see my poster I made with Marissa the last time they came through Portland hanging on their walls. Pretty cool!

SPACE Gallery Block Party video recap

A week ago now SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME. A venue I work at hosted Block Party which features tons of outdoor performances and artists. My print shop Pickwick Independent Press had a large scale physical Twitter feed and myself and Diane of Ferdinand also printed tshirts with the large type on a smaller printer bed. Myself and Diane are the first people in the video printing a shirt with the words Sloppy on it. I think thats what it said at least. I also created the Block Party logo featured in the beginning of the video.

New Brenda Tshirts

Just got done printing up some new tshirts for the Portland band Brenda. Just in time for their upcoming shows with Titus Andronicus in Vermont and right here in Portland at SPACE Gallery. View all the info for that show here. If you go down a few posts I also made the flyer for this show.
The concept for this tshirt was made up by the band with a little help from me laying it out to be printed. It’s based off of some video game, but you’ll have to ask the band for details on that one. It was a bunch of fun printing these up. There is only about 16 available, for some reason we always made small run’s of shirts, but I think that makes them even more cool! The last shirts we printed up together were a few months ago and it was a very large upside down triangle on the check of the shirt. Those were all hand printed with a hand squeegee much smaller then a normal one so you could see each print that was layed into the giant triangle. I Believe those are all gone by now but these new shirts are even better and will be available at their show on Tuesday for a very reasonable price. Brenda also has a pretty rocking album called Silver Tower that you should check out.

Below is a few shots from the printing session in which I also made a small run of posters using the tshirt image with hand drawn text on all of them. These will get hung up around Portland in the next few days.

Old Canes videos

Really into bands who take the time to make their record special, which to me includes taking the time to think about the packaging and sometimes even hand stamping, printing, drawing or wrapping each cd. This is a video from Old Canes, a band made up of some member of The Appleseed Cast, Minus Story, 4th of July & Boy’s Life. It shows them hand stamping and packaging their albums.
