Portland Patch Project update!

Portland Patch Project

For the last few months I have been working towards to launch of my new project called the Portland Patch Project. It is basically a project where I curate 12 different artists to create a design in which will be getting made into sewn patches. 1 patch will be released every month by a different artists and between 100-300 patches will be made of each design. I will also be adding surprises throughout the year including screen prints, pins and possibly more patches!

The first patch in the project for January 2015 is Steve ‘Stivo’ Zittel‘s Maine Makers Club patch. I have just received these in hand and they look great! You can purchase these here and can choose between buying all the available patches individually or in a subscription which saves you money and gets you a few extra goodies. All patches so far are $6 and shipping is free.

I also have a older Maine patch that I designed and a screen print of Steve’s design available. Free is you order a subscription!

Other artists that will be making designs include… Ryan LaMunyon, Eric Hou, Hannah Rosengren, Kris Johnsen, Reuben J. Little, Amy Teh  and a few more to be announced!

After this weekend patches will be available at the stores Pinecone+Chickadee, The Portland Museum of Art, Ferdinand & Kurier in Portland, Maine if you would like to purchase these in person. Pricing may change slightly at stores.

Above is a nice little write up from the Portland Phoenix.

Mount Sharp vinyl

mount-sharp
I recently had the pleasure of doing an illustration for longtime friend Bryan Bruchman’s new band Mount Sharp. They have a new ep coming out/out right now called Weird Fears. The ep is pressed on 12in vinyl with one side being the music and the other side having an etching of the illustration I made for them. I’ve yet to see this in person but the pic below looks pretty sweet! I’m excited to see what it looks like when spinning. Pick these up directly from the band on the internets or at their live shows.

CASPIAN – Asia and Australia 2014 Tour Tshirt

Caspian.TFinalMockUp.72
My good friends in the band CASPIAN are currently on a tour of Asia and Australia. As I understand this is the first time they are going to a lot of these places. They were kind enough to ask me to design a Tshirt for the tour including dates on the back and all! I actually submitted 6 or 7 designs to them but this is the one that we went with! I really enjoyed some of the other designs so they might see the light of day at some point in the near future but probably not as a band tshirt.

I do not have any of these shirts. they are only available through the band on tour and possibly after.

I found this picture on Instagram of a fan who bought the shirt. My first view of an actual printed shirt since they were printed halfway around the world. Sorry for stealing your photo for my blog.

Dance Walk Portland – A Dance walk-a-thon Poster

Dance Walk Portland A Dance Walk-a-thon Poster - Kris Johnsen 2013

Poster design for Dance Walk Portland A Dance Walk-a-thon. This was designed by myself and awesome help from Hannah Rosengren drawing the cat in the top design. I volunteered last week to design a flyer for an event that benefitted the Animal Refuge League in Maine. Since I didn’t have days and days to work on this and felt that it needed to have a more fun vibe then a of of my past posters I tryed to take my drawing and design style in a completely different direction. First I had the idea to showcase two different animals on one flyer but they ended up not fitting very well without making them a lot smaller. I then decided to just make two different flyers that went well together, this is not the first time I’ve done this, and always like when there is not just one image representing an event.

I asked my friend Hannah Rosengren to help me out and draw a cat since she does that so well and I don’t think I’ve ever drawn a good picture of a cat. Her cat is featured on one flyer and my dog Capone is featured on the other. After having the two illustrations I drew lots of different shapes and designs on a few sheets of paper “shown below”, scanned them in and started to lay them out in a little scene around the animals. I’m really happy with how these can out and were super fun to make something different as of lately. Here’s all the info for the event!
